Robert Campina

June 3, 1941 — May 1, 2025

Robert "Bob" Campina, 83, passed away on May 1, 2025, in Eugene, Oregon, surrounded by his children.

Born on June 3, 1941, in Manhattan, New York, Bob lived a full and vibrant life marked by service, dedication, and an enduring zest for living life to its fullest.

Bob grew up in Los Angeles and graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School in 1959. Shortly after completing his education, he enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1959. Serving as a cook until 1963, Bob was stationed at Hamilton Air Force Base and deployed to locations including British Columbia and Alaska. Following his honorable service, Bob began a long and steady career with the United States Postal Service. Over the course of 31 years, he became a familiar face to many and was known for his reliability and work ethic.

Bob met Kathleen “Kathie” Briscoe on a blind date, and they married in 1965. They moved to Sebastopol in 1972, where they built a life focused on family and raising their five children. Every summer was spent camping in the redwoods, or taking family road trips around the Pacific Northwest.

Bob was deeply involved in his community through both faith and service. As a member of the Sebastopol Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he took on leadership roles in numerous Boy Scout and youth activities and served as a firefighter with the Hessel Volunteer Fire Department. His commitment to mentoring young people reflected his generous spirit and belief in giving back.

Bob and Kathie divorced in 1989 and he moved to Calistoga, where he spent the next 35 years after retiring from the USPS. Bob loved his time in Calistoga, making many lifelong friends and fully embracing his hobbies, most notably tennis and fixing bicycles. He became affectionately known as “Bicycle Bob,” often combining his hobbies with opportunities to help others. Whether volunteering or simply lending a hand to a neighbor or friend, Bob’s gregarious nature made him beloved by many. He had a larger-than-life presence that filled every room he entered. His last years were spent with his love and partner Karen Slusser, who preceded him in death in 2024.

Bob had a lifelong love of music. He taught himself to play guitar and performed in many church choirs and stage productions. In his later years, he was known for his elaborate karaoke setup and was never shy about being behind the microphone. His booming voice brought joy to many.

Bob is lovingly remembered by his children: Robert (Louise) Campina, Teresa (Thomas) Taylor, Tomas (Karrie) Campina, Kristina (John) Campina-Roth, and Aimee (Jason) Zimmer; his sisters, Nanette Campina and Rosemary Perez; his many nieces and nephews, and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother, Josephine Perez; and sisters, Maria Louisa Quesada and Linda Campina.
