Valerie Block

Valerie Block, age 65, died in Eugene, Oregon on April 4, 2025. She grew up in Salina, Kansas and graduated from Salina South High School. She went on to earn an undergraduate degree in History from Kansas State University and a graduate degree in Recreation & Leisure Services from Springfield College. Valerie worked for federal Social Security Disability Income for many years, first in Virginia, then in Washington DC, and finally in New Mexico prior to her retirement.

Valerie was an avid tennis player all her life. She won the Kansas State girls’ 4A singles tournament in 1976, and played in numerous tournaments throughout the US. She continued playing tennis until ill health forced her retirement in her later years.

Valerie is survived by her two sisters, Audrey Block of Eugene, OR; Stephanie Dotzel of Iowa City, IA; her brother, Gordon, of Yamhill, OR; and four nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents. A private service will be held at a future date.
