Marvin was known for his great sense of humor, loving nature, and devotion to his family. He was an energetic and intelligent individual who found joy in many outdoor activities, including running, mountain biking and skiing. Marvin was an avid outdoor enthusiast and averaged 1600 miles/year biking. Marvin also enjoyed helping others as a computer technician and was always there to help those in whatever they might need.

In his professional life, Marvin had a distinguished career in aviation. From his first flight in 1969, Marvin quickly earned his Private, Commercial and Flight Instructor licenses with Instrument ratings, and his Airline Transport Pilot license.  He flew many kinds of aircraft as an instructor, charter pilot, aerobatic instructor, and corporate pilot, acquiring aviation experience in a wide variety of circumstances.  From 1977 to 2014, Marvin was a pilot for United Airlines, flying the Boeing 737, the 727, and finally becoming the captain of the 747, with at least 23,000 hours in the air.  He flew all over the US and to Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, and China, but his favorite route was from San Francisco to Sydney, Australia, which he flew 330 times.

Marvin’s ashes will take rest in Waldo Lake and a Celebration of Life will be held in late July to honor and celebrate the life of Marvin. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Condolences can be made at https://www.andreasons.com/obituaries/marvin-sparks
